Five open source projects could become the basis for new businesses and industries in 2012.  Nginx, a Web server program, could become popular due to its ability to easily handle high-volume traffic.  Nginx already is used on highly trafficked Web sites, and the next release, due in 2012, will be more pliable for shared hosting environments.  The OpenStack cloud computing platform has gained support from several technology firms due to its scalability.  "We're not talking about [using OpenStack to run a] cloud of 100 servers or even 1,000 servers, but tens of thousands of servers," says OpenStack Project Policy Board's Jonathan Bryce.  Stig was designed for the unique workloads of social networking sites, according to its developers.  The data store's architecture allows for inferential searching, enabling users and applications to look for connections between disparate pieces of information.  Linux Mint was designed specifically for users who want a desktop operating system and do not want to learn more about how Linux works.  The Linux Mint project is now the fourth most popular desktop operating system in the world.  GlusterFS is one of the fastest growing storage software systems on the market, as downloads have increased by 300 percent in the last year.

Apple : l'iPhone perd des parts de marché en France et en Allemagne

Face à la crise économique qui sévit dans la zone euro, Apple voit ses parts de marché baisser en France et en Allemagne d'après les estimations du cabinet Kantar Worldpanel.

L'iPhone tributaire de la conjoncture économique

Il faut croire que la conjoncture économique prend finalement le pas sur l'industrie de la téléphonie et qu'Apple ne soit pas épargné. L'étude du cabinet Kantar Worldpanel, relayée par Reuters, estime que les ventes d'iPhone ont chuté dans certains pays, notamment ceux de la zone euro. Ainsi en un an, les ventes d'iPhone auraient glissé, notamment en France avec des parts de marché de 20 % contre 29 % l'an dernier à la même époque, mais aussi en Allemagne (22 % contre 27 % il y a un an).
En Italie et en Espagne, ces baisses seraient également du même ordre.

A l'inverse, les parts de marché augmentent au Royaume Uni, passant de 21 % à 31 %, tout comme aux Etats-Unis où la progression est plus importante (plus 11 points, passant de 25 % à 36 % de parts de marché).

La concurrence féroce de Samsung fait mal à Apple

Pour expliquer les difficultés de l'iPhone dans l'Europe de l'euro, la crise économique n'est pas le seul argument avancé par Kantar Worldpanel. La concurrence féroce d'autres constructeurs de smartphones, notamment Samsung avec ses nombreux appareils fonctionnant sous Andoid, explique ce déclin en un an. Samsung a lancé 2011 le Galaxy S II, véritable concurrent de l'iPhone 4 voire même du 4S, mais s'appuie également sur une large gamme de smartphones vendus à prix bon marché.
Kantar Worldpanel estime qu'un smartphone sur deux écoulé en France est un Samsung. En Allemagne, Android représenterait 61 % des parts de marchés, où le Galaxy S II est en large tête.

Toutefois, Apple n'a pas de quoi s'alarmer, puisque les ventes mondiales de son iPhone 4S devraient encore atteindre des sommets au niveau mondial.

Il n'y a pas de note dans le cas ou je ne trouve pas les logiciels dans une des forges. Il faut aussi pour chaque projet et à coté des sources au moins 3 fichiers: 

1. README qui explique un peu ce que l'on trouve,  
2. INSTALL qui explique comment faire marcher votre logiciel 
3. et enfin TODO qui explique ce qui n'est pas encore fait!

Je regarderais aussi les commit dans chaque projet: chaque candidat doit avoir au moins fait un commit!!

Vous pouvez si vous le souhaité , créer une page wiki personnelle (libre.cofares.net). Dans votre page personnelle vous pourrez ecrire tout ce que vous souhaitez publier concernant votre propre participation au projet.

Après le login essayez http://libre.cofares.net/tiki-my_tiki.php , puis dans preference http://libre.cofares.net/tiki-user_preferences.php mettez votre pays et la confidentialite = public et finalement créer votre page personnelle User_....

Have you ever wanted to attend a webinar but quickly discovered that the web-conference service doesn't even support your operating system? This has happened to me several times and it irks me greatly! I always make sure to tell the company that they should switch their web-conferencing service to one that supports multiple platforms including Linux.

It is somewhat hypocritical when an open source company offers a webinar about their open source product, but they don't allow customers with open source operating systems like Linux to attend. I ran into this ridiculous issue when trying to attend a Zimbra webinar. I told them that it was wrong for them to have such great multi-platform support in their product and at the same time only allow Windows users to participate in their webinars. We'll see if they take that advice to heart.

Usenix: Dartmouth Updating Diff, Grep Unix Tools

Dartmouth University researchers are updating the grep and diff Unix command line-based text analysis tools available in all Linux and Unix distributions to handle more complex types of data.  The updates are needed because "we now tend to have more model-based configuration languages that have meaningful constructs spanning more than one line," says Dartmouth graduate student Gabriel Weaver.  The researchers say the updated tools will enable administrators to extract meaningful data from configuration files, log files, and other sources of operational data.  The output from either of these programs can be linked to other utilities, enabling them to be incorporated into scripts that automate routine system administration tasks.  The new programs, called Context-Free Grep and Hierarchical Diff, will provide the ability to parse blocks of data rather than single lines.  For each new type of data structure, a vendor would provide a pattern library identifying the basic structure of the data, which the software would then use to "extract the constructs of interest from the document," Weaver says.
